Case study: "[Carotinaemia in patient with excessive beta-carotene food-intake and dysregulated diabetes mellitus]."
Quote from Dr. Garrett Smith on April 27, 2019, 7:28 pmA case of carotinaemia in a patient with excessive beta-carotene food-intake, diabetes mellitus and physiological amenorrhea is reported. The patient developed yellow discolouration in the palms and the soles of her feet. Blood samples showed a significantly increased lever of serum beta-carotene, but normal vitamine A value and liver enzymes. The patient reported an excessive intake of carrots (approximately 1 kg per day). The status of physiological amenorrhoea and dysregulated diabetes mellitus may have deteriorated the yellow discolouration of the skin.
It is the excess of Poison/"Vitamin A" carotenoids in this case that CAUSED the amenorrhea (lack of menstrual cycle) AND the poorly-controlled diabetes.
Let us be clear:
- She had been eating 1 kg (2.2 pounds) of carrots a day.
- She had high beta-carotene in her blood, yet her liver enzymes and serum retinol ("vitamine A value") were NORMAL. Note, that would still likely be quite HIGH for what I shoot for with my clients.
- She had dysregulated (poorly controlled) diabetes AND amenorrhea (no menstrual cycle). There is no coincidence here. The toxicity causes the health problems, and it was NEVER the other way around.
- The yellow skin means that she is Poison/"Vitamin A" toxic. I have shown in other posts that the skin discoloration starts at the same blood levels of retinyl esters that have been associated with the start of Poison/"Vitamin A" toxicity in the liver.
If you have EVER had orange or yellow skin from eating Poison/"Vitamin A" foods, you are guaranteed quite toxic.
