Observations/anecdote about Vitamin A supplement and liver pills
Quote from Dr. Garrett Smith on November 17, 2018, 3:57 pm[I used to give/dose Vitamin A supplements based on hair calcium levels, and for a while I used liver capsules with clients as a source of B-vitamins and copper...both of these practices are now long over, this is important to know for understanding the anecdote below, see my comments after]
Hey Dr. G,
I listened to your podcast on vitamin A today. I thought you may be interested in this:
When I did the hair mineral analysis with you last year, I seemed to tolerate everything very well except for the vitamin A and liver pills. In fact, both are still in my supplement graveyard more than half full. I would just feel really sick after taking them. Also, I’ve known for years that when I add dairy back to my diet, I almost immediately gain 20 lbs and become super estrogen dominant and puffy. I’ve never known “why” until listening to your podcast today. Also, I never knew why I was intolerant to all nightshades except potatoes. I’ve always loved potatoes and tolerated them quite well even though I have dozens of other food intolerances.
Everything you’re saying makes perfect sense. I watched the replay this afternoon of your live. Also, the uva/uvb thing... I have to schedule my day around getting a full hour of sun or I just don’t function properly. I’ve also been getting in the sauna and if I skip a day with that I feel bad. Can’t wait to see if doing 6 months of the detox helps me function better.
Needless to say, I enjoyed the podcast very much.
My comments:
- One thing I always do with clients is tell them that if something I give them makes them noticeably feel bad, then they should STOP. If the body gives us an immediate strong signal that an input to the black box makes the output bad/worse, then don't do that, REGARDLESS of what anything else says! Now that I'm SO aware of Poison/"Vitamin A" toxicity, this would be obvious. Back then, her reaction to those simply showed that her body didn't want those things. Either way, the proper action is to stop them.
- Dairy is a "perfect storm" of Poison/"Vitamin A" toxicity problems in general, as she noticed. This would now also be an obvious sign of Poison/"Vitamin A" toxicity.
- Nightshades are problematic in terms of Poison/"Vitamin A" (and the likely synergistically bad combo with nicotine, see other thread)...except white-fleshed potatoes, which have almost NO Poison/"Vitamin A".
- Sunlight/UVA/UVB destroys Poison/"Vitamin A" in the skin, so she felt better.
- She says she feels better from doing the sauna...which prompted me to research further and find out that we detox Poison/"Vitamin A" through the skin and sebaceous glands [microscopic exocrine glands in the skin that secrete an oily or waxy matter, called sebum, to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair of mammals]: In vivo distribution of carotenoids in different anatomical locations of human skin: comparative assessment with two different Raman spectroscopy methods. I will do another thread on this.
What makes her feel worse and what makes her feel better can all be correlated to Poison/"Vitamin A". There are no coincidences.
