AVOID Vitamin A fortified foods, watch for these names:
Vitamin A Palmitate
Retinol Palmitate
Retinyl Palmitate
Vitamin A Acetate
Retinyl Acetate
“Vitamin A added”
AVOID Vitamin D fortified foods, watch for these names:
Vitamin D3 aka Cholecalciferol
Vitamin D2 aka Ergocalciferol
“Vitamin D added”
ADDITIONAL AVOIDS:
Citric acid added to foods or supplements (screws up copper metabolism)
Mineral citrates (magnesium citrate, zinc citrate, potassium citrate, etc.), these are minerals bound to citric acid
Carageenan and other gum thickeners added to foods (guar gum, xanthan gum, locust bean gum, basically anything with the last word being “gum”), these are significant gut irritants
Generally avoiding any “fortified foods” is a good idea. If you see vitamins or minerals on the ingredients list of any food, I would suggest generally avoiding it.
